All white date night

Yesterday was HOT.  Chris and I decided to continue our summer tradition of free movie date nights in Sundance Square!  Last night's movie was The Muppets, and seriously, I couldn't have been more excited!  I grew up on the Muppet Show and it brings back amazing memories for me.  I had not seen the Jason Segel movie before, despite telling myself I'd see it in theaters when it came out (you know, like 2 years ago...)  It was SO good!!

The best part was getting to spend the time with my hubby.  There's something about strolling through our town at night... it's always beautiful and we're always headed somewhere for some fabulous free event.  Fort Worth truly is an amazing city for a young couple!!

So like I said, yesterday was HOT.  Before we headed out for our walk and movie, I decided white from head to toe was the way to go!  This outfit is super simple... nothing fancy or expensive... just cool, casual cotton.
I'll say it again... I can't get enough of layering plain solid shirts over tanks and Ts this summer!  I wear this white button-up all the time!!  Last night was a perfect night to take it off and wrap it around my waist until the temperature cooled down... which I did, after sweating to take these pics!  The long sleeve shirt and shorts are both affordable finds from Target.
I also felt compelled to wear some proper shoes for walking (this doesn't happen often... I'm usually the girl struggling in heels because it's worth it haha)  I love love LOVE these New Balance sneakers with accents of brown and pink!  These shoes were actually a gift to me from my brother a few years ago and they were buried in my closet for awhile.  My bro may not admit it or talk about fashion much, but he does have an amazing sense of style.
Plain and simple... This Michael Kors T-shirt was a fashion find at Stein Mart.  It's always nice to have a little bling, so I love the sparkly MK.  Did you know that Stein Mart has a entire Designer Finds section of their store?  If you didn't, you really need to check it out!!  I love me some Michael Kors and I love it even more at a discount!  They even carry some designer items from Kate Spade, Roberto Cavalli, YSL and Versace... just to name a few.
Another detail you'll probably notice... my glasses.  Yeah, I don't wear them very often because I don't need them unless I'm trying to see a far distance, BUT I've gotten a ton of compliments recently on them!  I've had them for a few years now but they are DKNY.  Crossbody bag is vintage Fossil.

Once the sun went down and the weather cooled a little bit, it was a perfect night!  I really enjoyed this all white outfit!!  Sometimes casual, light and bright is the best way to go!  You can still look cute even when you're sweating in Texas ;-)

How would you wear all white?  What are you favorite white pieces in your wardrobe?

MayFest 2014
And last but certainly not least, MayFest 2014 is happening now and for the rest of the weekend!  This is one of the best annual activities in Fort Worth, in my opinion.  I love how spread out it is in Trinity Park.  There's grassy space, trees, and plenty of room for one of the biggest local events you'll see!  It is completely family-friendly but also a ton of fun for adults.  There are kids activity areas, a variety of live music on multiple stages, shows throughout the day like the Great American Duck Races and the Pony & Dog show, fabulous food and drinks, games, carnival rides, and local vendors and artists selling goodies!  Get outside and enjoy the amazing weather in the next few days!!  Find all MayFest info including parking tips on their website!

I hope to see you out and about over the weekend!  We are so blessed to live in an amazing city with so many fun activities to offer!  I say it every day... I LOVE FUNKYTOWN!

Fort Worth... the next Austin?

You may not know this if you live elsewhere in the DFW metroplex, but if you actually live IN Fort Worth, especially downtown, you've been noticing lots of changes in the last year or two! From the added activities along the Trinity River, to the bike lanes recently added to downtown streets, and the major development of numerous retail restaurants & bars just outside downtown, the changes are happening everywhere! Even Sundance Square is now getting a complete makeover in an effort to keep the center of downtown more pedestrian, moving most of the parking to the outskirts of the city in existing parking garages.

Texas is HUGE, in case you haven't noticed! So I think many Texans will tell you that while we're all proud Texans, we realize differences between the major cities and the people that choose to live there... Houston is different than Dallas which is different than Fort Worth and well, Austin is just the little weirdo that we all can't help but love! But I'm loving that the distinctive lines dividing these cities are becoming blurred!  I don't feel that HUGE difference anymore when I go between Fort Worth and Austin! What I love about Austin, they seem to be bringing to Fort Worth! Tons of outdoor activities and festivals, improved parks & recreation areas, water activities on the river, smaller "local" food joints instead of just giant chain restaurants, and boutique shops! The culture and history of Fort Worth remains, but the activity for MY generation seems to be booming!

Another huge boom lately? Food trucks! Again, an Austin favorite and something they've been doing for years! Today marks the opening of a SECOND food truck park in Fort Worth, the Cowtown Chow Down! Can't wait to hit this up!

So if you love the feel of Austin and you haven't been to Fort Worth in awhile, you need to come visit our little Funkytown :-) I've been saying for a few years now that every move this city makes seems to be geared towards an end-result like Austin, and now it's what everybody is saying! Fort Worth is NOT second to Dallas just because it's smaller, nor any other city in this state! In fact, us locals have just kept it to ourselves mostly... but I think now our great city is realizing we deserve to be recognized! This is an amazing place to live, a great place to raise a family and even better, for me, a great place to be in your 20s and enjoying day AND night life!

So the next time someone asks you, "Where should we go? What should we do today?" just say... "Won't you take me to, FUNKYTOWN?!"
