Preview: Main Street Arts Festival 2014

Chris and I took a walk this afternoon to enjoy the warm weather, sunshine and to preview Main Street Arts Festival!  ...mostly because I couldn't wait until tomorrow.  I LOVE the Main Street Arts Festival!!!

We are supposed to have some gorgeous weather in the next few days so you better get your bum downtown to check it out!!  There's nothing like it!  This is no craft fair... this is a collection of some of the most talented artists across the country, plus yummy food and alcohol!  I'm sure you'll find me mostly at the craft brew beer garden! :-)

Don't forget to check out the Main Street Arts Festival website and facebook page for tips on parking and shuttles!
Enjoy the festival and enjoy your weekend!

Sit & Sip

I heard from a college friend, Heather, the other night, and we've been playing phone tag since. Life has gotten crazy the past few years, and sadly I've hit that age where it's the norm to not talk to your good friends for months at a time! I don't remember when we last saw each other, or just talked on the phone... and that's even more sad considering we both still live in the metroplex! But careers and significant others have swallowed our time, and the impromptu "sit-and-sip" sessions we used to have are few and far between.

For those that were not my roommate in college, let me catch you up. A "sit-and-sip" is something Heather and I came up with and it's a pretty simple concept... we like to SIT and SIP on an alcoholic beverage. LOL! So I've been thinking about Heather, how I miss her and miss college and how maybe it was a little strange that as young, energetic, "partying" college students, we enjoyed just sitting so much... and well, today it hit me... Heather and I were just way ahead of our time and perhaps mature enough to realize that a "sit-and-sip" is a luxury! Now, years later, I have so many busy days when I think to myself, "Cripes! I just want to SIT DOWN!" So, in honor of Friday, I challenge you to enjoy your own "sit-and-sip" session with a friend or loved one sometime this weekend! Cheers!

And to Heather, my lovely friend whom I miss dearly...let's get this next sip and sip planned! "Beers up buffalo bitch!" hahaha :-)

Fort Worth Main St. Arts Festival 2012

Today is the first day of the 2012 Main Street Arts Festival in downtown Fort Worth! I'm so in love with this festival... if you live in DFW and you've never been... GO! Now! Well, go sometime this weekend! Fort Worth is not a big city, but that doesn't matter for this festival! It is still Texas-sized fun, overtaking all of downtown's Main Street and Sundance Square. There's tons of food, music and of course, the arts, ranging from sculpture and paintings to unique crafts and jewelry. There is so much to do, you could easily spend the entire day there, or even multiple days! It's family fun, but also geared to adults, offering alcohol and a variety of foods. Get outside, enjoy the sunny weather and support this fantastic local festival that draws vendors from around the country!

The Main Street Arts Festival runs Thursday April 19 through Sunday April 22. Find more information, including concert schedules, maps, and special events, HERE. I think this "Paint Your Own Canvas" activity sounds so fun... especially since it includes wine ;-)

He is risen! Let's eat

Hope everyone had a fabulous Easter weekend! I spent my weekend with my parents at their house. Saturday afternoon was perfect for laying out in the sunshine, so I busted out the bathing suit and some skinnygirl sangria and had a nice sweaty couple of hours by the pool. It turned out to be hotter than I thought! But the pool was still really cold, so I stayed poolside the whole time. Mom made some chicken pasta salad for dinner, and it turned out to be a great relaxing day.

Sunday morning we went to church and heard a great message. Of course it seemed to be completely applicable to my life and just what I needed to hear... funny how that happens ;-)

Easter dinner was just me, my mom & dad, so we opted to going out to lunch instead of mom cooking. We tried a new place we had never been before... mom found it, searching for restaurants in Grapevine. Result: great meal at Boi Na Braza, a Brazilian Steakhouse with the same sort of set up as Texas de Brazil. Our meal was fantastic!!

The price was very reasonable for the food we got, the atmosphere, and the service. The staff was extremely friendly and immediately got us started with a great wine. One of the best things about Boi Na Braza is the fact that there's no waiting for your food to be cooked, you can start eating immediately. The salad bar was great... lots of choices of salad, soups, pasta salad, cheeses, breads, veggies, smoked salmon, olives, and hot side dishes for the meats like mashed potatoes. After filling my plate with tons of goodies, I was already half full before I even started on the meats!

Waiters walk around with skewers of different meats, cooked to perfection and ready for enjoying. When you're ready to have them bring you the meats, you flip your table card from red to green, signaling the "go team meat!". Within seconds you're surrounded by waiters offering tender cuts of sirloin, filet mignon, pork & beef ribs, picanha (rumproast Brazilian special), lamb chops, chicken breasts & legs, and pork loin & sausage. I don't even think I'm naming all of the meats that were available. I was actually surprised that I liked the sirloin better than the bacon-wrapped filet mignon that I had! The sirloin just seemed to have more seasoning, more flavor & juiciness. But everything I tasted was fantastic and I got so full, so fast!

Our meal included choice of a dessert, so I had creme brulee, so did mom and dad opted for their caramel turtle cheesecake. OMG! Everything was soooo good, so rich and fantastic. The creme brulee was so light and creamy, so smooth and had a perfect caramelized sugar top. I tasted dad's cheesecake which was also delicious. I'm not huge on caramel, but it was amazing! I was really close to ordering the chocolate mousse cake... maybe I should have so I could have tasted 3 desserts instead of 2, but man, I just couldn't pass up that creme brulee, that's something you don't make at home for yourself ;-)

Great meal, really affordable for the amount of food we had and for a fantastic wine too. We will definitely be going back! Oh gosh, I forgot, it included complimentary valet parking, also! That's a short cut to my heart <3

St. Patrick's Day

last minute decision on St. Patty's Day to go out to South Padre... I didn't enjoy the traffic, but I do have to say I had fun once we got there!
